Role

To support organisational accounting procedures, reporting, project budgeting and provide support to personnel, as well as additional support under the direction of the Finance Director.

The role offers the chance to work across a number of finance functions, including management accounting, supporting budgeting and year end processes, accounts payable and receivable; and so, it provides a great opportunity to experience the full breadth of finance work in an organisation across all functions in a varied and interesting role.

What We Are Looking For

The role involves supporting and adhering to organisational and financial requirements (internal and external) with multiple stakeholders and adhering to financial deadlines, requirements and organisational needs.

The role is central to supporting the financial functioning of Kamara and the work that we do, it is key that the person is proactive in finding solutions and works well within a remote team.  The role also requires engagement with different departments, funders, and works with different projects, it is important that the person has a level of comfortability to engage with varying audiences and is able to communicate complex financial information in a way that others can understand. 

We need a person who ensures that strict confidentiality is applied at all times, has good numerical and technical skills, and strong attention to detail. 

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Liaising with allocated budget holders (project leads) on project budgets and ensuring that all project budget information is up to date and accurate on a monthly basis. 

  • Internal coordination and management of month-end processes, monthly payroll, invoicing (in liaison with the Project Leads and the Operations team), credit card/creditor reconciliations, bookkeeping and review of allocation of costs.

  • Coordinating client and donor financial requirements in a timely manner, including tracking and invoicing.

  • Supporting with organisational finance maintenance, including tracking active grants, cost recoveries, cash balances, accounts processing, coding, bank transfers.

  • Supporting the team with financial queries, including managing financial requirements for trips (cash advances and payments).

  • Assisting the Finance Director with reporting and the development and implementation of processes and procedures. 

  • Ability to cover the Finance Director and Finance Admin when required. 

  • Other ad hoc duties in line with organisational needs.

It is essential that candidates have:

  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience in finance / accountancy 

  • Experience working with not-for-profit organisations and donor reporting 

  • Experience in QuickBooks or other similar accountancy software 

  • Experience in dealing with more than one currency 

  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and clear communication ability 

  • IT Literate with strong Excel skills 

  • Ability to self-manage and work remotely 

  • Fluency in English language (both spoken and written)

It is preferred that candidates have:

  • Experience in an organisation working across more than one country 

  • CCAB qualified accountant

Terms

Full time or part-time (3 days per week) permanent position (subject to a 6-month probation and termination provisions).

UK-based but working remotely with occasional meetings in London.

We would like to work with someone who approaches their work as part of the team and the bigger picture.

Remuneration will be commensurate with the level of experience and an indicative range will be given to those shortlisted. The overall range is £GBP34,000-37,000 per annum.
