Risk Management Specialists - Consultant Pool

About Kamara

Founded in 2019, Kamara is a social enterprise that supports social justice actors to grow stronger by navigating the risks they face. We work with organisations engaging with topics ranging from equality to climate justice and with different profiles (from grassroots organisations to funders). We provide them with access to expertise and support that will improve their holistic security, knowledge-based strategic decision-making and, ultimately, contribute to improving their resilience for achieving their vision. To date, Kamara has provided risk reduction support to over 150 organisations, reaching over 800 people.

Kamara is looking to establish a pool of risk management consultants to support our in-house team to develop and deliver various short and medium-term holistic security projects.

We are interested in hearing from risk specialists with strong and pragmatic technical capacities, social justice values, a keen analytical eye and excellent time management skills. We particularly welcome applicants with relevant lived experience who can bring diversity of thought to our approaches.

Responsibilities and deliverables will include:

  • Creating holistic security risk management frameworks appropriate for organisations, individuals, communities, and funders

  • Building on existing organisational and individual knowledge to devise and deliver security management plans, protocols, and implementation support

  • Conducting research (e.g. context analysis, stakeholder mapping)

  • Identifying and strengthening the capacity of local coordinators and/or pro-actively fostering local support networks.

It is essential that candidates have:

  • A minimum of three- five years of practical operational experience of risk mitigation

  • Ability to adapt strategies and approach to the context and realities of our partners on the ground (for example individuals and groups who do not necessarily have access to the type of resource-support or infrastructure available to large NGOs or the humanitarian aid sector)

  • Experience in designing, developing and delivering virtual and in-person training programmes, using methods or activities (e.g. scenario-based simulations, mentoring, on-the-job training)

  • Experience in writing reports for different types of readers

  • Cultural and gender awareness and sensitivity gained through experience working with multicultural partners

  • Experience working in fast-paced environments

  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken)

  • Ability to work across multiple time zones (from South-East Asia to North America)

  • Ability to travel

It is preferred that candidates have:

  • Lived experience of social justice initiatives and/or in higher-risk environments

  • Professional qualification and/or a certificate in risk management and/or facilitation

  • Additional languages
